VIDEO about Communication Boards

A few days ago I posted an article about ComAlong Communication boards, and I found today a video of the Autism Association of Wester Australia where they talk about the concept of a communication board. It's no specifically about the ComAlong kind, but similar, so I guessed it would be useful in case the article didn't make very clear what a communication board was.

In this video, they explain how a Communication Board can be formed with core words which are words that can be used any time in any context (like "go", "want"...) or it can be made with words for a specific activity (like "book" in a classroom context, or "egg" in the kitchen context). This, I think, is useful because it gives you the option of personalizing the boards for the needs of the child.

You can also observe, even though it's not mentioned in the video, that the boards have different colors for each picture, that's to help the child know which pictures are nouns, which are verbs, etc.

I hope this video has given you a good idea of what a communication board is and how it can be used.
